Two matriculants from St John’s College have been accepted at prestigious international universities, Harvard and Oxford.
Sazi Bongwe who features in the Top 1% of candidates per subject has been accepted at Harvard.
Sazi intends to enrol in a degree in Applied Maths and Economics, which, combining as it does hard science and the humanities, reflects his academic journey.
He achieved an average of 95.9% and nine distinctions including Dramatic Arts, English Home Language, History, isiZulu FAL, Life Orientation, Mathematics and Physical Sciences as well as Advanced Programme English and Advanced Programme Mathematics.
Meanwhile Lwandle Tshiamo Ntshangase will be off to Oxford University to study law.

Speaking to Kaya 959’s digital team Lwandle is relieved with his results and says his mom is ecstatic and proud of his achievements.
The matriculant achieved 7 distinctions and is preparing for his international studies.
Lwandle achieved an average 91.2% pass and is in the top 1% for English and Life Orientation. He earned seven distinctions in English, French, History, isiZulu, Life Orientation, Mathematics and Physical Science.
An only child, Lwandle took his matric academic year one step at a time and didn’t stick to a rigid plan.
His advice to future matriculants is to adopt self-discipline and manage their schedules. Lwandle also removed any distractions when he was studying to give him better focus.
The top achiever didn’t always know he was going to study law and said that dreams of attending Oxford was always just a pipeline dream.
“It’s something that has always been at the back of my mind. A pipeline dream that I had growing up,” Lwandle shared.
It wasn’t until he took an interview with the university that the dream became a goal.
After submitting his AS levels and his matric mid-year results, Lwandle had an interview with the English university.
“They call it an interview but it’s actually more an oral test. It was nerve-wracking and I was worried about how I was coming across because there were connectivity issues,” he said.
Despite his concerns Lwandle aced the interview and will be expected on campus in mid-October for his first semester.
His decision to study law was also a recent one.
“It wasn’t until I was in Grade 10 that I realised what I wanted to study. That’s when I knew law was the direction I wanted to take.”
Lwandle joined the St John’s debate team and his legal mind was made up from there.
His goal is to get into international law.
St John’s College has achieved 100% matric pass rate with the IEB class of 2021.
All 140 of the boys who wrote achieved a Bachelor’s pass.
Jacqui Deeks, Head of Marketing and Communications at the school shared that they are extremely proud of all the boys for their achievements.
