A dramatic cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery went horribly wrong in the early hours of this morning in Thokoza, leaving one of the alleged perpetrators with a devastating injury.
Reports indicate that the suspect lost a leg when explosives he was reportedly carrying detonated prematurely during an attempt to bomb a cash van in Phola Park Extension 5.
Police sources confirm that at least ten armed individuals were involved in the brazen heist.
The gang allegedly used a silver BMW to ram the cash vehicle at the intersection of Khumalo and Murubisi streets.
Graphic images purportedly showing the aftermath of the explosion, including an amputated leg lying near the damaged vehicle, have been widely shared across various social media platforms.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident and are actively searching for the remaining suspects involved in the failed robbery.
