The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in Johannesburg has issued the Department of Education an ultimatum.

The ANCYL is calling for parents to send their children to private schools and send their bills to Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi.
The league’s spokesperson for Johannesburg, Penuel Maduna blames the Department of Education for capacity shortfalls at most public schools in the province.
Maduna is calling on the Gauteng Education MEC’s office to be held accountable for those learners who do have a school.
“The department must cover the school fees and transport costs of these young people because they are victims of a flawed system that was created by the Gauteng Department of Education,” the ANCYL said in a statement.
There are plans for the league to liaise with the Congress of South African Students to identify learners who do not have access to schools and place them in private schools.
Thereafter the league says they will instruct schools to send their invoices to the office of the MEC of Education.
“We call on the Gauteng department of education to place the young people who do not have access to schools as a result of the department’s failure in private schools until their placement in public schools is finalised.” The ANCYL Johannesburg
According to the department 1 465 learners remain unplaced. There are reportedly hundreds of appeals from parents who are unhappy with the schools their children have been placed in.
