At least 8 dead and over to 300 injured in a ‘mass casualty’ event after the crowd surged at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival in Houston
Panic broke out after the crowd began to press towards the front of the stage at rapper Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival.
At least eight people — the youngest 14 — were killed as crowds surged toward a stage while hip-hop star Travis Scott performed.

This was perhaps the deadliest American concert since a 2017’s mass shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas.

Some 50,000 people attended the outdoor event, which cancelled the second day of the event.
Live Nation said in a statement that: it was “heartbroken for those lost and impacted at Astroworld last night. We will continue working to provide as much information and assistance as possible to the local authorities as they investigate the situation.” Organizers canceled the festival’s second day Saturday as families gathered at a local hotel to reunite with survivor.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Travis Scott, who founded the festival, stopped multiple times during his 75-minute performance when he spotted fans in distress near the front of the stage.

The rapper posted an emotional video on social media as police in Houston said they had opened a criminal investigation into the stampede that led to the deaths of the concert-goers, including a 14-year-old and a 16-year old.
