Ten Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officers have been granted bail after they allegedly assaulted three men with sjamboks.
An 11th officer remains in custody.
Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson Grace Langa says the accused appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The accused TMPD officers are:
Lebohang Precious Lekoadi, 35
Siphamandla Sibanyoni, 29
Rose Busana Nhlanhla, 43
Clemens Mankhedi Mokabang, 37
Tshikani Dennis Baloyi, 38
Matsimele Edgar Chuene, 41
Chauke Headman
Tebogo Lenyai, 34
Khadammbi Humbulani, 35
Richard Maselela, 45
Matuba Nelson, 44
They spent the weekend behind bars. Ten of the suspects paid R2, 000 bail each. Baloyi remains in custody as this is not his first case.
“Maselela has a pending statutory corruption case and is still in service. Nhlanhla has a pending case of statutory corruption, theft and assault and all still are in uniform,” Langa says.
Reports state that the victims had gone to collect a vehicle stored at the pound when they were assaulted. It is unclear why the men were attacked. IPID has confirmed that it is investigating further.
IPID has meanwhile condemned the incident and warned police officers from taking the law into their own hands.
