Gauteng police have arrested two men in connection with a drive-by shooting in Parktown.
Just before midday on Wednesday, officers from the Vanderbijlpark SAPS Task Team responded to reports of a shooting.
“When they arrived at the scene, police found that a driver had been shot in his upper body. A second person seated in the white Mercedes Benz, was not injured,” said Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo.
It is alleged that four suspects in a blue Mazda 6 came from the opposite direction and started shooting at the victim’s vehicle.
Masondo said police conducted a search for the suspects, who fled on foot.
He said two men were seen running in Vanderbijlpark and police managed to catch them.
“When they were searched, two firearms were recovered. The suspects aged 27 and 25 were arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms. The motive for the shooting is being investigated,” Masondo said.

The suspects will be profiled and the seized firearms will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory to determine if they are not linked to any other crime that has been committed.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear at Vanderbijlpark Magistrates’ Court in due course.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela commended the police officers who arrested the suspects.
“I am pleased by the swift reaction by the officers that affected the arrests minutes after the incident,” he said.
In a separate matter, a 31-year-old man arrested for being in possession of explosives has been remanded in custody.
