Bail has been denied for a mother who allegedly sold two girls for sex to foreign nationals. One of the girls is the woman’s daughter.
The mother, who cannot be named because it will identify the teenagers, appeared in the Keiskammahoek Magistrate’s Court alongside foreign nationals, Tanvir Tirru Rahman (34) and Roime Raju Mohammed (36).
The 42-year-old woman is accused of sexual exploitation while Rahman and Mohammed face charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and rape.
NPA spokesperson Anelisa Ngcakani said they were denied bail because they failed to present exceptional circumstances in their applications for them to be released on bail. Rahman and Mohammed were also seen as flight risks as they don’t have family ties, assets or occupational ties in Keiskammahoek.
“The 42-year-old mother was also seen as someone who might intimidate and influence witnesses and complainants as one of the complainants is her daughter,” Ngcakani said.

Teen sold for R400
The woman allegedly sold her 13-year-old daughter and her boyfriend’s 16-year-old niece to Rahman and Mohammed. Mohammed at the time of the alleged crimes worked as a welder while Rahman was a sales assistant at a local shop.
Ngcakani said the girls were 11 and 14 at the time. The alleged crimes took place between February 2019 until March 2021.
“The alleged crimes surfaced when the 13-year-old girl, who has a mental condition, asked her friends to accompany her to a man she would have sex with in exchange for money. She promised to buy them sweets once she received the money.
“The mother allegedly received R400 in exchange for each sexual encounter,” Ngcakani said.
She added that the woman would allegedly use the money to buy alcohol and drugs for herself and her boyfriend.
The case was postponed to 14 October 2021.
All three accused remain in custody until their next court appearance.
