Dudu Busani-Dube has captivated South African readers since her first book, Hlomu the Wife was published in 2015. Now the novelist of the Hlomu series is thrilled that Showmax has picked up her books for the platform’s first Telenovela series, “The Wife.”
The book received so much praise and interest from adoring fans that the author included two more books in the series to keep up with demands for more.

The series will be based on Busani-Dube’s best-selling and popular novels Hlomu the Wife, Zandile the Resolute and Naledi his Love from her Hlomu series.
Centred around the lives of eight Zulu brothers, a formidable crime family, from Greytown, KZN, the series is a compelling tale of love stories through the eyes of the wives who the brothers marry.
Busani-Dube told The Star on Sunday that an on-screen adaptation of the Hlomu series had been in talks for a while, almost two years in the making, until an agreement was reached late last year with production company Stained Glass.
Stained Glass has many SAFTA-winning shows such as eHostela and South Africa’s most-watched soap opera Uzalo under their banner.
Fans of the books will be pleased to know that the series will be binge-worthy with 120 episodes planned which will be split between the 3 books in the series. The first 40 episodes will revolve around Hlomu, the unsuspecting journalist who falls hard for a taxi owner.
Hlomu ventures down a road of intense, toxic, dark love. You’re either able to understand her thinking or admonishing her for allowing Mqhele to control her.
