In June this year, the department of health in a statement clarified that that the story of 10 babies from Tembisa was indeed false and that it was impossible for the babies to be born without a record of their existence.
“This relates to successive stories published by the Independent Media group that Gosiame Sithole has given birth to decuplets at the hospital a week ago. Mysteriously, the location of the infants was never established… it cannot be that 10 or 8 babies are born and that no evidence of their whereabouts or existence can be established.”” the statement read.

The family then later also confirmed that the story of the 10 babies was fake news, in a family statement they said:
“The family has resolved and concluded that there are no decuplets born between Tebogo Tsotetsi and Gosiame Sithole, until proven otherwise and wishes to apologise for any inconvenience and embarrassment.”
