On Friday, the 29th of January, there were helicopters and a massive police at Fourways Mall due to a bomb threat. A terrifying panic was in the air, as thousands of people were rushed out of the mall. The incident looked like a scene from a Hollywood movie.
A statement issued by Fourways mall confirmed that the centre had received the threat by telephone. The statement also confirmed that the South African Police Force, Bomb Squad and K-9 units were notified and responded immediately. Both the Bomb Disposal Unit and the mall has confirmed that no bomb was found.
“The mall’s health and safety and evacuation protocols were set in motion swiftly and the situation is currently under control.”

“Situations of this nature are treated with utmost seriousness, and this case will be investigated further. We would like to thank the SAPS who responded within four minutes, ER24, Life EMS, the Bomb Disposal Unit and the Fire Ops Rescue for the prompt response and action taken.“
Recurring bomb threats
In October 2016, both Fourways Mall and Crowthorne Shopping Centre received a similar threat, both centres were evacuated and swept by the bomb squad. The threat also turned out to be bogus.
