Today Kaya 959 celebrates the life of Bob “The Jammer” Mabena.
Tuesday, 10 August, marks one year since his passing and we’re looking back on the highlights of his career.
Mabena’s broadcast career started in 1989 at a radio station known as Radio Bop, and lasted for a further 31 years.
Proudly 10 of those years were spent at Kaya 959.
Mabena is affectionately known by listeners for his role as Breakfast Show host, but he also played the role of programme manager behind the scenes.
‘180 with Bob’ is a Radio Awards’ winning show which became the fifth award the television and radio personality received between 1994 and 2013:
1994: Artes Award: Best Radio Personality
1994: South African Music Awards: Best Rap Artist of the Year
1995: Artes Award: Best TV Personality
2012: Hall of Fame induction
2013: MTN Best Breakfast Show
