Head Designer of Sober Design, Tshepo Mafokwane joins The Hive with Bonolo Beesting.
Chatting about the aesthetic of their brand, she says it’s “feminine and very flattering. It is typically South African women.”
She explains: “I think as an African woman I know what our bodies like to look like and it helps that I’m actually a woman because I know what other women want to look like.”
On staying away from brands she says “being a true brand you are the trend and that trendiness it’s the classic one.”
Like most luxury brands, they’ve also fallen victim to people making knock offs of their stuff.
“We don’t have those brands that are strong enough and have been around for centuries and successful enough to not even feel it. They don’t care if there’s a knock off in Bree street or China town, it doesn’t affect them.”
Tshepo believes that the only way is “to rise above to that level.”
She adds: “We also have to be weary of such things and market ourselves because one thing I can tell you is that a sober cutomer who wears our brand see the knock off and they laugh. Because they know how the clothes feeland fit. They understand the true value of the brand and they appreciate that.”
They discuss the state fashion, knock-off labels and Tshepo advice to aspiring fashion designers
