Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog is a Japanese video game series and media franchise created and owned by Sega.
The first Sonic game, released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis, developed after Sega requested a mascot character to compete with Nintendo’s mascot, Mario.
In an attempt to steal the six Chaos Emeralds and harness their power, the evil Dr. Ivo Robotnik aka Dr Eggman, has trapped the animal inhabitants of South Island inside aggressive robots and stationary metal capsules. The player controls Sonic, who aims to halt Eggman’s plans by freeing his animal friends and collecting the emeralds himself.
Sonic is Sega’s flagship franchise and one of its bestselling video game franchises, selling over 140 million copies by 2016 and grossing over $6 billion by 2020.
Sonic fanatics are not impressed after Paramount Pictures lauched the Sonic movie trailer. Claiming that the humanization of the already anthropomorphic hedgehog, did not resemble the classic video-game character. Fans complained about its creepy aesthetic and, human like teeth. The filmmakers listened to the masses, & director Jeff Fowler announced on Twitter that the character would be redesigned.
