On Thursday 6 April, it all came down to the final three – Diatonic SA, TUT Small Ensemble and The Pursuit. This year, SPAR and Kaya 959 ran the second annual singing competition for unsigned choirs. This time, we wanted to find the best of the best among youth choirs. Championed by Feel Good with Andy Maqondwana, the call to find the best youth choir was heeded by groups from Gauteng all the way to Gqeberha. Entries were narrowed down to 20 finalists, who had to undergo the strict scrutiny of our admired judges – The Soil. Famous for their breakout hit Joy, the band selected their top 10, from which the Kaya 959 audience voted for the three finalists who would sing it off on stage

The Sing-Off was held live on the Feel Good Show with Andy Maqondwana at the Kaya 959 studios, where the lovely harmonies of the three youth choirs could be heard echoing across the corridors.
Inland SPAR Promotions and Advertising Manager, Maxine D’Amico was filled with emotion as she watched the three finalists give their best performances for a chance to be crowned the SPAR Voices of Youth Sing Off winners for 2023. The Pursuit, a group of youngsters who had been performing together for only three months, were declared winners and received a R20 000 cash prize courtesy of SPAR and Kaya 959. Diatonic SA and TUT Small Ensemble did not walk away empty-handed, with each group receiving a R5 000 cash prize.

For The Pursuit, their winning moment became a life-changing opportunity when The Soil announced that they would like The Pursuit to join them in studio where they will be featured in the recording of the band’s final single from their upcoming album. Look out Mzansi, The Pursuit is in hot pursuit of success.
