On Friday, 17 June, Sizwe Dhlomo hosted the first ever Kaya Drive Eat Out contest. This comes after an on-air discussion last week about whether you eat and drink quickly or would rather take your time.
Extending the invite out to listeners to join in on the Eat Out, Sizwe said the contest was an endurance eating contest and was not a test to see who could eat the fastest.
Contestants were in it to see who could eat the most pizzas, and the pizzas were all topped with the same ingredients to ensure a level playing field.
Poor Sphamandla Yende, a tech producer at Kaya 959 had to stomach avocado which he shared he’s allergic to.
“I get nausea when I eat avos and it just messes me up.”
Sphamandla shared with Sizwe before the contest started
After Siz laid out the house rules, the eating began with Maselwa wolfing his way into the lead right off the first bite.
The only female contest, Bongiwe was struggling to keep up with the guys, and despite his convictions that he can eat, Siz wasn’t doing too well himself.
Unfortunately, Sithembiso from Mpumalanga dropped out of the contest after his first pizza.
It took Maselwa about 30 minutes to get through his first two pizzas.
In the end he was the clear winner, eating a total of 19 slices and if there was still time, he could have gone on to eat more.
Coming in at No. 4 and eating a large slice of humble pie was Mr Dhlomo who could only manage 14 slices of pizzas.
Sphamandla was a close second, getting through 16 slices of pizza, both with toppings he doesn’t eat.
Extra Large and Buhle were tied at third place.
