The Gauteng Provincial Government and Joburg Water say water supply has been restored at Helen Joseph Hospital following low pressure challenges on Tuesday, 06 June.
In a statement issued on Tuesday afternoon, Joburg Water said an open valve within the ringfeed of the hospital had to be closed as it was creating a negative pressure.
This meant water was no longer being pushed into the hospital network, resulting in low pressure to the hospital’s tanks.
A joint investigation by technicians from the Department of Infrastructure Development (DID), Johannesburg Water and Helen Joseph Hospital’s Facility Management Unit led to the improvement in water supply.
The water pressure improved immediately after the main valve was closed and subsequently water was restored to all areas of the hospital.
Technical teams will continue to monitor water levels overnight, and Joburg Water will have a water pumping truck stationed on site as a precautionary measure.
Restoration of pressure levels is expected to normalize healthcare services at the facility within the next 24-hours.
Low water pressure at Helen Joseph from Thursday, 01 June meant patients had to be diverted to other hospitals for treatment.
There was also a high risk of infections and sanitary concerns, but the Provincial Government says all these concerns have since been resolved.
