The Department of Transport confirmed on Wednesday, 03 May that the drivers license production machine is once again out of operation.
While the department is still encouraging the public to continue to apply for the drivers license card as normal, it could take anything from 2 to 3 weeks for the machine to be back up and running.
This is due to a technical breakdown which was encountered by the team during routine maintenance of the machine.
Routine maintenance commenced from 05 April to 19 April, thereafter the technical team noted the breakdown which requires a replacement of a critical part from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

The country’s only driver’s license printing machine previously broke down in October 2022, and was out of order until 26 January.
A massive backlog of 383 000 license cards was reported by December last year as a result.
The department will notify the public when the license machine is back up and running.
