South Africa’s only driver’s licence card printing machine has suffered a breakdown again.
Due to the only printing device in the nation experiencing a second breakdown in less than a year, South African drivers could experience additional delays when renewing their driver’s license cards.
According to Xolisa Jakula, the Eastern Cape’s interim chief director for transportation laws, who spoke to MyBroadband efforts are being made to get it back in operation by the end of the week.
“The machine is reported to have not been working for two weeks now, and there is an indication that processes are underway to ensure that by the end of this week, it is operational,” Jakula who told MyBroadband.
“We are expecting a further update tomorrow [Wednesday, 19 October 2022].”

MyBroadband reports that the device was out of action from when it malfunctioned in November 2021 to the end of January.
Even with the holiday season into consideration, the machine’s recent repair took two months.
There’s been no official statement from the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) and the Department of Transport (DoT) as yet.
