New Joburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda has been accused by the The Democratic Alliance (DA) of using a funeral scheme to defraud people.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced that it will be investigating claims of fraud about a funeral plan organized by Gwamanda that is alleged to have defrauded numerous people in Soweto.
The DA claims that Gwamanda and his business partner operated a funeral program and investment firm that disappeared before beneficiaries received their compensation.
On Saturday, DA Caucus Leader Mpho Phalatse released a statement detailing the alleged fraudulent activity.
The DA in the City of Johannesburg has given the newly elected mayor of the City of Joburg, Kabelo Gwamanda, 48 hours to reply to claims of fraud.

“The allegations circulating on social media suggest that our newly elected Executive Mayor may have flouted the financial laws of this country, swindled and scammed members of the public.
It is however concerning that there has since been damning information circulating about Cllr Kabelo Gwamanda, which cast aspersions on whether he could be trusted with such responsibilities including overseeing the more than R70 billion budget of the City of Johannesburg.”
“It is alleged that Cllr Kabelo Gwamanda, through his entity iThemba Lama Afrika, scammed innocent residents into investing in a funeral/investment scheme. However, the investors were left hanging dry when it was time to claim their benefits.” read the statement
The People of Joburg deserve a Mayor they can trust, not a swindler or a scammer!
