Johannesburg Metro Police (JMPD) officers to wear body cameras.
In an effort to combat corruption and bribery, officers of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) will soon have to be fitted with body cameras.
Body cameras have been very useful in combatting crime in a number of countries across the world, particularly in the United States.
They have been hailed for offering real-time, permanent records of what happens during a confrontation between the police and a citizen, and a recorded video can be utilized as corroborating evidence in officer complaints for IPID and as evidence in arrests for prosecution.

“We are taking full responsibility and have invested a lot of resources in internal affairs.
“The city is undertaking a process of purchasing body cameras that will assist or eradicate issues of corruption.
“They will also protect our officers and protect the public.”
