The grandmother of one of the murdered boys in Soweto, as well as her boyfriend have been arrested in connection with their murders.
Nqobile Ndlovu, 50, and Mthunzi Musawenkosi Zulu, 39, have been charged with two counts of murder, kidnapping, perjury and defeating the ends of justice.
Mduduzi Nqobizitha Zulu, 5, and Tshiamo Rabanye, 6, were found mutilated in White City and Rockville, Soweto after going missing on Wednesday, 19 April.
Ndlovu, the grandmother of Tshiamo Rabanye, was the child’s legal guardian, as he was an orphan.
The pair appeared at the Protea Magistrates Court, on Friday, 28 April.
Despite initially opting to represent themselves in court, the couple have since acquired a legal representative due to the gravity of the charges against them.
The grandmother’s arrest shocked the Soweto community who were still reeling from the shocking deaths of the two boys.
Ndlovu had helped to report the boys missing and even joined the search for the boys through the night.
Her co-accused is not related to Mduduzi Nqobizitha Zulu.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson, Elias Mawela, the boys were playing outside in a street near their homes when they went missing on Wednesday, 19 April.
At 18h00 one of the boy’s parent started looking for his son and couldn’t find him. The other parent was called to also try to locate the children but they were nowhere to be found.
Both boys were reported missing at the Moroka Police Station when the search party were unsuccessful.
