If you have a PDF copy of Andre de Ruyter’s book, Truth To Power, delete it and do not share over any social media platform.
This after the publisher, Penguin Random House SA (PRHSA), has threatened to take legal action against anyone who illegally shares the book.
The former Eskom CEO’s new tell-all memoir hit book shelves on Sunday, 14 May, but leaked digital copies of the book has been doing its rounds via WhatsApp and other messaging apps.
De Ruyter shares what his 3-years at the helm of the embattled power utility was like, and divulges how he investigated “rampant corruption” at Eskom.
The former CEO claims that a senior ANC member was instrumental in stealing millions of Rands from Eskom every month.
With many eager to know who the senior politician is, PDF versions of Andre de Ruyter’s book has been making it’s rounds amongst friends and family via social media.
Now, PRHSA says it would be taking legal action against anyone who is illegally distributing the book.
“Penguin Random House SA is appalled by the illegal distribution of a pirated PDF of Truth To Power by Andre de Ruyter, which is being disseminated on WhatsApp messenger.
The distribution of pirated copies infringes our copyright as well as that of the author, and it is unlawful in terms of the Copyright Act of 1976.
We wish to make clear to the public that the only way to obtain an e-Book legally is to buy it from an e-Book retailer or to borrow it from an authorised e-Book library.
Any copying or distribution of a pirated e-Book, or any forwarding of a link to the pirated e-Book, is unlawful. We will take legal action against individuals who are circulating pirated copies, which may include criminal complaints once we have collected all the necessary information.”
While de Ruyter’s pockets may be hurt as a result, he says, “It seems in South Africa anything related to Eskom is prone to being stolen.”
