Forget about jumpers and onesies, Trevor Noah believes parents should gift their babies Bitcoin for Christmas.
‘The Daily Show’ host shared his thoughts on capitalism and Christmas during a recent behind-the-scenes segment.
“What is Christmas without money changing hands? Think about it. Imagine Santa is coming to your house. To do what? Just to eat cookies and tell you he was there? The whole point is, he is delivering the gifts. The gifts are bought with money,” he said.
The 37-year-old added that Christmas has always been a celebration of capitalism.
“Jesus, when he was born, what did the people do? They brought gifts. They didn’t come there empty-handed, because they were wise men… You come there like a broke**s b**)h: ‘oh, the Son of God has been born’. What did you bring? ‘Oh, I didn’t think I needed to bring anything.’ No, it’s the other way around. Christmas is all about giving.”
The South African comedian suggested that people buy gifts that their loved ones can actually use.
“I’m sick of people buying babies, baby things. Babies can’t use baby things. ‘Oh, I bought you a jumper, a onesie.’ The child has outgrown it in two months. Buy kids functional things. I buy babies Bitcoin. Yeah, you can thank me in 20 years,” he joked.

The meaning of Christmas
Many of Trevor Noah’s fans agreed that Christmas was all about capitalism.
“Yes, I wish it was more about Jesus. BUY BUY BUY, SO MANY COMMERCIALS, SHOP SHOP SHOP. All material things you can’t take to heaven. It is pushed into our faces daily just to feed the rich and economy,” one Twitter user wrote.
Another user added: “Christmas has always been what human beings make it. Birthdays and holidays in America have been promoted to only be perfection if we have huge decorations, huge crowds and lots of stuff.”
Trevor will likely be taking a much-needed break during the Christmas and New Year weekends. He has a busy year ahead.
He will be hosting the Grammys for the second year in a row in January. His ‘Back to Abnormal World Tour‘ resumes in the new year.
His next stop is Madison Square Garden in New York, where he is currently based.
