Thomas and Skhumba, in the morning team, challenged the listeners to use their different languages to say their breakfast show tagline – “We love it in the morning.” Our listeners are really connected to their other languages. The team received lots of voice notes with callers sharing their different versions of “We love it in the morning.”

Language is a vital part of human connection. South Africa has 11 official languages. These shape the way people perceive the world, and it also helps to define the culture of any society. We all have at least one language that we understand and communicate best in, although some of us may have more!
People use different labels for this language − like “mother tongue” or “home language” − but it is the language we learnt first. It’s the language we think and feel in, the one in which it is easiest for us to express ourselves and communicate with others.
