The speaker of council, Nonceba Molwele, called the meeting in terms of Rule 16 of the Standing Rules and Orders of Council.
Matongo, who is the former MMC for Finance in the current term of office, takes over the remainder of the term following the recent death of mayor Moloantoa Geoff Makhubo because of Covid-19.
Thomas and Skhumba asked Kaya 959 listeners and who are mostly Gauteng residents to share what should be the new Mayor’s “to-do-list” for Joburg citizens?

There were many calls to for the mayor to start with fixing service delivery in Johannesburg.
#ThomasAndSkhumba #unemployment , improve access bro resources, and cleaning the city inside out , also putting Kasi first because service delivery is almost non-existent if not people don’t know where to get the right kind of help.Transparency within how things operate in COJ

Crime is also a major concern with the residents, and they are saying that the mayor must prioritize putting in measures to keep them safe.
There’s been numerous reports by Joburg motorists of the terrible road conditions, particularly the issue of potholes. One Kaya 959 challenged the new mayor to make it an urgent item when he steps into office.
@thomasmsengana @skhumbi what I would like to see from the mayor is him giving the forgotten township, Alex attention, potholes, electricity and water are always a problem. The 2 previous mayors failed it and that needs to change #ThomasAndSkhumba @KayaON959
