The Springboks brace themselves for their Sunday quarterfinal match against France in Paris. The match between the two sides will commence at 21:00 as they battle it out for a spot in the RWC semi-final.
Director of Rugby, Rassie Erasmus, said playing against the hosts in front of their home crowd at a jam-packed stadium will be a big channel for the Boks.
“If you want to do something great, it will never be in ideal situations,” said Erasmus. “Given how France has done and the way they’ve been playing in the last few years, this will be one of the top games, and we’ll have to try to manage that.
“Winning is everything, and there are different ways of winning. Defense, scrums, lineouts, mauls, and rucks will always be important, and given where we are in the competition now, things will get tighter as the pressure builds.
Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber will announce his 23-man squad for the match on Friday.
Lukhanyo Am, a member of the Springboks’ victorious 2019 World Cup team, has been brought into the current Boks World Cup squad as a replacement for the injured Makazole Mapimpi.
Mapimpi unfortunately suffered a fractured cheekbone during South Africa’s impressive 49-18 win over Tonga on Sunday.
This is the second injury replacement for the 33-man squad, with flyhalf Handre Pollard having been called up to replace Malcolm Marx.
