The Senegalese national team will have to compete in the FIFA World Cup without their captain Sadio Mane.
Mane picked up an injury in Bayern Munich’s 6-1 win over Werder in the Bundesliga – the forward came off in the 15th minute.
Yesterday Bayern announced that Sadio Mané underwent successful surgery where a ruptured tendon was reattached to the head of the right fibula.
He will miss the World Cup and will begin his rehab in Munich, the club confirmed.
This will come as a disappointment for the African Player of the Year as he was named in Senegal’s 26-man squad for the World Cup. His national team was hopeful that he would recover in time.
Senegal will face the Netherlands in the first World Cup game on November 21, 2022.
