Orlando Pirates had removed Thembinkosi Lorch from all club activities until December 12, following the conclusion of legal proceedings against the footballer.
On Tuesday, November 21, Lorch was fined R100 000 and given a 5-year suspended sentence for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Fundiswa Nokuphiwa Mathithibala, in 2020.
In response, Orlando Pirates said it noted the conclusion of the assault case against Lorch and would commence its internal process.
This was in line with the club’s rules and pledge, which were articulated in the statement the club issued when legal proceedings against the player commenced.
According to a recent statement from Pirates, Lorch appeared before a disciplinary committee, where he had to recommit to The Pledge.
The statement also states that throughout his suspension period, Lorch demonstrated accountability for his previous actions and took substantial measures to address them. “He willingly participated in a clinical evaluation and has committed to follow any recommended follow-up care.”
Furthermore, he has expressed his “steadfast dedication to personal growth and is fully cognisant of the repercussions should he falter.”
Thembinkosi Lorch has completed his suspension and is now eligible to rejoin club activities, effective December 13, 2023.
