Molefi Ntseki, the head coach of Kaizer Chiefs, expressed satisfaction with his team’s hard-fought 2-1 triumph over Cape Town City in the MTN8 tournament on Sunday afternoon.
In the wake of a prior loss against Sundowns, Ntseki commended his players for demonstrating both character and “trust in the process”, although he acknowledged that the match, which was determined in extra time, was a closely contested affair.
“It was a very tough one, knowing that we came from a loss in our last game against Sundowns. So I impressed on the players that, as this was a Cup game, we had to give an ‘A’ performance, and I must say well done to the players in terms of how they responded to implementing the plan today,” stated Ntseki.
“From the first minute, you could see we wanted to win this game. We were putting much pressure on the opponents, and we didn’t give them much space to play. I think our counter-pressing was very good.”
Ntseki highlighted the intensity that Cape Town City brought to their recent matches and explained the importance of striving for victory within regulation time, given the energy challenges associated with extra time.
Speaking about the unity within Kaizer Chiefs, Ntseki emphasized the cohesive environment prevailing from the Chairman to the technical team, each member he named, along with management and players—even those who didn’t make the trip to Cape Town.
