South African Olympic champion Caster Semenya is set to deliver the keynote address at Harvard University’s prestigious Women In Power Conference on 12 April 2025.
Her speech, titled Reimagining Power: Establishing a New Legacy, will focus on resilience and overcoming adversity.
Semenya, a decorated athlete with multiple Olympic and World Championship gold medals, will share her experiences navigating controversial regulations imposed by World Athletics.
These regulations, which she argues are discriminatory, require her to undergo testosterone-lowering treatments to compete.
“They can take me off the track, but they can’t stop me from running,” Semenya stated, referencing her ongoing legal battle.
A ruling from the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in her case against World Athletics is pending.
Semenya’s speech will also highlight her work through the Caster Semenya Foundation, which aims to support aspiring South African Olympians.
Her 2023 memoir, The Race to Be Myself , details her life, advocacy, and legal challenges.
Despite a 2023 human rights ruling in her favor, the regulations requiring medical intervention remain in place. Semenya maintains her stance against discrimination, emphasising self-acceptance and respect.
“The most important thing you can do is embrace and respect yourself for who you are,” she said.
