President Cyril Ramaphosa cast his vote at the Hitekani Primary School in Chiawelo, Soweto this morning in the 2021 local government elections.
The president ended his election campaign in Kagiso on the West Rand. While the president remains confident the ANC will retain a majority lead in the municipalities, some residents disagree.

In Soweto, angry residents protested, barricading roads with tyres and rocks this Monday.
Residents in the area are growing increasingly frustrated having gone days without electricity.

While Kaya News covers the elections, many have complained that special voting was not an option this year.
Usually the IEC makes concession for citizens who cannot make it to voting stations due to health restrictions.

Voters have been queuing from 05h00 to cast their votes in the local government elections. South Africans have until 21h00 on Monday to cast their votes. Those still in queues at 21h00 will not be turned away.
