Many South Africans have been feeling a pinch in their pockets.
The price of petrol and electricity increased early this month. A few months ago, South Africans complained about the high price of ginger. It was more than R200/kg at the time.
Now customers have taken to social media to complain about the price of tomatoes.
Popular Twitter user, Advo Barry Roux, said he froze when he saw how much tomatoes were selling for these days.
“I froze on Sunday when I saw the prices. 6 Tomato R48.90 – 12 Tomato Tomato R70.00 – Box R150,” wrote Barry Roux.

Why the price of tomatoes has increased
According to Luzarem Bascillio, a farmer in the North-West, the reason for the massive hike in prices is due to the scarcity of the produce.
He says this was caused by the heavy rains that the country experienced recently, which shortened the harvest period and affected yield.
More complaints about tomato prices…
Advo Barry Roux is not the only one who complained. Below are more complaints from social media users.
