Kaya Drive host Sizwe Dhlomo is an early bird who gets more than the worm. Rising at 03h00 every morning despite his daily drive show only starting at 15h00, Sizwe detailed why he’s up before the crack of dawn.
On Friday Sizwe asked listeners “What time do you wake up and why?”

With many companies still working from home, the perks of flexible working hours and early mornings were a thing of the past for most Kaya 959 listeners.
COVID-19 did not affect Sizwe’s early bird morning rituals however and he explained that he is quite pedantic when it comes to his mornings.
“There’s so much you can do when you’re up at 03h00. I read and that’s the best time to read because it’s quiet. I also just want to make the most of my day and getting up early gives me an advantage because by 09h00 my day is already mapped out.”
Sizwe attributed his early mornings to his breakfast show days and it’s a habit that sort of just stuck with him.
“Actually the waking up at ‘3 thing’ it started because I was doing a morning show and I never went back to normal after that. But that’s the best time to get up and read because at 03h00 all the international stories break. So you start your day fully informed.”
“When I worked a 09h00 to 17h00 I used to be up at 05h00. You have to give yourself enough time to get ready, drive to work, think about traffic. So I used to leave home, latest 07h00,” Sizwe spoke about his regular workday and the time he used to get up.
