We’ve spent the last couple of weeks tackling mental health around men; looking at where and how to ask for help if you are looking for an outlet to deal with any mental health challenges you may be going through.
A lot has been said and this morning the team decided to take a step back and look at how we can possibly teach the next generation of men how to talk.
“Do you think you have created an environment in your home that makes your boy child, especially teenage boys, comfortable with speaking about their emotions?” Asks Thomas.
“I don’t remember a point where my friends said they’ll sit down with their sons to talk about mental health issues.
“We just behave and they just learn from us. I don’t remember my dad sitting me down and explaining to me how we should do things.
“Being a man is tough and sometimes you can’t break down in front of your kids. How are you looking at your kids and telling them that you are struggling?” Shares Skhumba.
A single mother shares: “This thing starts with Fathers who are absent from their children’s lives. Can fathers please play a role in their children’s lives, there’s a role I can’t play as a woman.”
Puseletso explains how she’s created a safe space with her sons. “Initially, it was difficult, I’ve created a space where we talk about everything and anything. Fortunately for me, I’m a health professional and I understand psychology. I’ve created a space where there’s nothing we don’t talk about.
“One thing I’ve noticed is to never blame anyone. There was never a solution to most of the problems that are going on right now,” SHE SHARES.
