Is being unemployed a deal-breaker? While some may perceive a person’s lack of employment to be a red flag, it does not always imply that you should not date them.
After all, there are a number of reasons why someone could be looking for a job, varying from a poor economy to sickness to secret wealthy status. Whether or not to date an unemployed man should be determined by the particular man and his position.
Here are a few pros and cons of dating an unemployed guy
PRO: He will not be obsessed with work
Someone who does not have a job cannot be obsessed with their work. That may cause a lot of tension in a relationship, so removing that potential issue is definitely a good thing. You won’t have to deal with him working on weekends or staying up all night glued to his laptop.
CON: He won’t have an income
When a guy does not have a job, he most likely does not have an income. Assuming he isn’t merely unemployed because he can afford it, he won’t have as much (if any) money coming in. While a person’s value is not directly connected to the amount of money they have or earn, it is an issue to consider. Life is expensive. And dating is certainly expensive!
PRO: He will make time for you
In most situations, someone who is unemployed will have more time to devote to you and your relationship. Unless he doesn’t have a work due to serious responsibilities, such as being a full-time caregiver, he should have more time to dedicate to dating you. It is always beneficial to have someone who is available, not only emotionally but also physically!
CON: You won’t have work in common to talk about
Work might be stressful, but most people can identify with the stress. One of the most popular topics of conversation on a date is work. And, once you’re in a relationship, it’s great to be able to return home and express your frustrations with a spouse who understands. If he does not work, he may not want to discuss your career. Or he might not realise how much strain it puts on you.
A coffee date is not even “that” expensive for an unemployed boyfriend, another thing a man should hustle 💁
