Proven track record:

In 2002, Ephraim Shakes Mashaba led then Amagluglug to their first 2000 Olympics, a first for a South Africans men’s U23 football team.
Bra Shakes has also been successful with the under 23’s and 20’s. He led the under 23’s to a victory at this year’s COSAFA Tournament and before that won the 2013 COSAFA U20 Championships in Lesotho .
He also led Bafana Bafana to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations tournament. Bafana were unbeaten through those qualifiers playing a memorable 2-2 draw against Nigeria away from home.

SAFA:

SAFA simply can’t afford another costly settlement. In 2012, the association had to pay former Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane R15-million after they fired him with two years remaining on his four-year contract. It is a well-documented fact that SAFA have struggled to attract sponsors since the 2010 FIFA World Cup and are in no position to endure a costly legal battle plus the cost that comes with having to pay out a fired coach while paying the salary of a new one.

YOUTH:

Mashaba has always shown faith in youngsters. He handed a 17-year old Ajax Cape Town defender Coetzee his debut against Congo Brazzaville in October 2014. Rivaldo, just a week short of his eighteenth birthday at the time, became the youngest player to ever play for the South African senior national men’s football team. A few months later in December, Fagrie Lakay broke that record when he played in the Nelson Mandela Challenge against The Ivory Coast. Bra Shakes has also introduced U23 players such as Keegan Dolly, Abubakker Mobara, Gift Motupa, Menzi Masuku and Aubrey Modiba.

Failure to qualify for AFCON 2017:

Mashaba has failed to qualify for the 2017 AFCON Qualifiers in Gabon and showed managerial inexperience by failing to prepare for a crucial away match against Mauritania. Mashaba did not know whether they would be playing on grass or an artificial turf and failed to educate his players on a largely unknown opposition. Bafana would go on to lose that match 3-1, a result that effectively put an end to South Africa’s hopes of qualifying for Gabon 2017.

Clashes with the media:

As the results have started to desert Mashaba in 2015 and 2016, the once loveable coach has shown his ugly side. When questioned about his future after failing to qualify for AFCON 2017, Mashaba has chosen to lash out at the media instead of addressing the issues.

Captain’s Armband:

Since Senzo Meyiwa passed away in 2014; Mashaba has struggled to find a consistent captain. Itumeleng Khune’s injury hasn’t helped the situation which has led Mashaba over the course of the last two years to contradict himself on the importance and role of a captain.

In the 6 AFCON 2017 qualifiers alone, Bra Shakes has used three captains in Itumeleng Khune, Anele Ngconca and Thulani Hlatshwayo. Hlatshwayo’s captaincy was the strangest of all because Khune was also in the starting 11, the same Khune that captained the U23’s well at the Rio Olympics just a few weeks prior. And if we go back even further Mashaba has also given the armband to Dean Furman, Andile Jali and Jackson Mabokgwane.

@Kaya_Sport if we r rebuilding why is it that we had 31, 30, & 29 year old players… we should be playing the u/20 or u/23 even if we lose.
