The search continues for two youngsters who were swept away in Olifantsvlei during a reported cleansing ritual.
An 18-year old female and 21-year old male are believed to have drowned in the Kliprivier stream, south of Johannesburg on Saturday, 18 November.
Search efforts for the youngsters were called off on Sunday, but have resumed on Monday, 20 November, however, there have been no positive signs that the pair are alive.
Speaking to Kaya News reporter Juliet Joseph, the mother of the 18-year old girl says her daughter was writing matric examinations but they noticed she wasn’t coping well.
The cleansing ritual was recommended because the sangoma had performed similar rituals for other kids in the community.
However, the distraught mother says she wants answers because they have not heard from the sangoma since her daughter went missing.
“We are still asking ourselves what really happened. The man that was doing the cleansing ritual hasn’t come to us to let us know what happened.
He had gotten permission from us because he usually takes the kids for cleansing. What we want now is for him to come and let us know what happened.”
