After almost two years, the South African Police Service announces the resumption of their Basic Police Learning Development Programme intake.
In a statement released recently, SAPS said that the training of new recruits was scheduled to begin in March 2020, but had to be suspended after President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a National State of Disaster and a nationwide lockdown.
Over the last 23 months, there haven’t been any new officers trained or deployed into the service.
Kaya 959 listeners give advice to new recruits coming into the service.

It is important to listen to and respect the people in the community as you are here to help them.
Be a problem solver
One listener would like the new recruits coming into the service to be able to manage a crisis, solve problems and have a sense of urgency.
Work on attitude
“Our police need to work on their attitude, loyalty, and transparency,” a listener shares.
Serve and protect
Kaya 959 listeners advise the new recruits to serve and protect with honor, pride, and dignity and they’ll go a long way.
Let’s appreciate the work that they do
“The guys have got families to take care of but they are always out there protecting their people. They earn very little to nothing so let’s always appreciate them,” a listener shares.
