SAPS discovered commercial explosives at an abandoned house in the Bruntville area in Mooi River.
The intelligence-driven operation was conducted by the Pietermaritzburg K9 Unit.
It is confirmed that the explosives are Viper booster that is generally used in mining.
SAPS suspects that the explosives are intended for ATM bombings and Cash-In-Transit heists.
The suspicion of the intended use is based on the knowledge of similar explosives found at previous heist crime scenes.
No arrests were made.
SAPS appeals to members of the public who have information to contact them on 086 00 10111.
