Nusr-Et Gökçe aka ‘Salt Bae’ has caused quite a stir since the opening of his London steakhouse with gold-wrapped steak costing R20 000.
The Turkish chef who became a viral sensation in 2017 for his eccentric salt sprinkling skills said the London restaurant has been a lifelong dream.
While the restaurant seems to be a huge hit with celebrity heavyweights such as David Beckham and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, many are saying the prices are extreme.
From a can of Coca-Cola costing £9 (R181) to a gold burger at £100 (R2024,56), the prices make for a very expensive dining experience.
The most talked about menu item is the 24-carat gold wrapped steak, which the popular chef slices personally should your pockets allow the extravagant order. Salt bae is one of the most-talked about chefs since Gordon Ramsay and he’s known for preparing food wearing his signature accessory, circular sunglasses.
Since his restaurant opened many diners have shared their outrageous dining bills with one diner’s bill totalling over £6 228.05 (126090,84). The bill included £15 (R303) french fries, £19 mashed potatoes (R384,67) and the statement gold wrapped steak.
