‘Skeem Saam‘ actress Pebetsi Matlaila is getting real about her post-baby weight loss.
The 34-year-old took to Instagram this week to remind women not to give in to societal pressure.
“Just a reminder of what I use to look like 2 months ago, as real and raw, no filter, no edit. It took me 9 months to put on this baby weight, it usually takes just as long to put it off,” she wrote.
Pebetsi gave birth to a baby girl two months ago. She named her daughter Qhawe.
The star says she doesn’t understand why people expect new moms to lose weight quickly.
“What’s with the UNNECESSARY pressure society places us under to snap back right away. On top of that breastfeeding does not afford you many weight loss options. Aowa maan lets be realistic.”
Pebetsi says the pressure to snap back leads to some women turning to dangerous weight loss methods.
“The next thing you subject yourself to dangerous methods to drop the weight fast, when the focus should be on Regaining and maintaining your health first. Se segolo ke bophelo,” she concluded.

Difficult pregnancy
Pebetsi’s pregnancy and childbirth experience were not easy. She revealed in May that preeclampsia complications almost claimed both their lives.
According to Mayo Clinic, preeclampsia has several complications, including fetal growth restriction.
“I don’t know yet how I survived. I’m told most women with preeclampsia don’t. I cannot wrap my head around it yet or comprehend what happened,” Pebetsi wrote on her Instagram Stories.
She says she was “brought back from death”.
“One day I will share the story. I don’t know why God chose us. For now, I appreciate health, and am deeply grateful for life.”
Pebetsi and her baby are doing much better, and she says she is grateful to have her little blessing in her life.
