Motorists were advised to avoid Beyers Naude Drive near Zandspruit on 1 June after illegal and dangerous electricity connections were removed.
In a joint operation between Honeydew police, Johannesburg Metro Police Department and City Power, over 14 tonnes of illegal electricity connections were disconnected in Zandspruit on Tuesday.
Cabling to the value of R280K was removed, with City Power tying up loose connections and hauling excess cables for storage.
City Power is taking part in an operation in Honeydew to cut off illegal connections. The operation is led by @Eskom_SA and supported by @JoburgMPD , SAPS and other law enforcement agencies.

City Power is looking to clamp down further on illegal electricity connections which is costing the city millions.

Other areas of focus inlcude Stjwetla near Malboro where multiple outages in the area were caused by illegal connections which were overloading the system.
“We do not condone illegality and appeal to residents to desist from vandalizing infrastructure or attempt to connect themselves to our system as it is dangerous.” – City Power
City Power says it will continue to remove illegal connections in informal settlements across City of Joburg in effort to save lives and not lose further revenue. City Power‘s Isaac Mangena says there are 211 informal settlements in city that have connected to the grid illegally.
