Former President Jacob Zuma has made his intentions clear by availing himself as ANC chair and backing his ex-wife Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as party president.
Zuma’s stance reaffirmed his lack of confidence in Cyril Ramaphosa running for a second term in office.
In a statement shared by Zuma’s daughter, Dudu Zuma-Sambudla, the former statesman said the serious organisational challenges the ruling party faces, will need to be overcome for it to rebuild.
Zuma made sure he reiterated that his support for his ex-wife, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has not wavered.
“There have been rumours in the public domain and the media about my leadership preferences for the upcoming conference. I wish to indicate that I have not shifted from the position we had taken in 2017.
I heard some comrades raising issues with regards to her, but unfortunately they all failed to present a better candidate with better credentials than hers, except those who have a lot of money.”

Jacob Zuma also said he would love nothing more than to be voted as ANC National Chairperson at the party’s December conference.
With calls for the party to make way for younger leaders, Zuma said while there will be an injection of young blood, an introspection at the younger ministers and their deputies will need to be done.
“The ANC suffered devastating electoral losses in KZN in the Local Government Elections in 2021, while the province was being led by younger leaders.
The notion of a generational mix rather than a generational takeover remains valid in my view.”
