JMPD spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar is putting down his badge after 41-years of service.
Minnaar was a part of the country’s law enforcement since 1981.
The City of Johannesburg paid tribute to Wayne Minnaar on 28 February, with his last day on the job being Friday, 11 March.
Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Mpho Phalatse said Minnaar’s passion and dedication to his job is what made him an exemplary voice for JMPD.
One of the highlights of Minnaar’s expansive career was when he escorted the late South African president, Nelson Mandela to his daughter Zindzi’s wedding.
Earlier in the week, Minnaar shared that he was once run over by a car on the highway, while him and his team were assisting with a broken down bus.
“I had to be hospitalised and on traction for 5-days with an injury to my hip,” Minnaar remembered the incident.
Acting Chief of Police, Angie Mokasi thanked Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar for his service over the 41-years.
Minnaar may be retiring from JMPD but he plans on still being a part of the road and traffic safety sector and aims to teach by-laws.
