Police Minister Bheki Cele tells the police they must not be afraid to fill up prisons on Monday.
Police must use all legal means to combat illegal activity on Monday during the EFF’s nationwide strike, according to Police Minister Bheki Cele. Cele urged the police to protect residents’ rights and to apprehend those who commit crimes.
‘You have the right to fill the prisons, therefore national police commissioner, all the structures of the police must be on standby and make sure that everyone that acts outside the law must be put in there.” said Police Minister Bheki Cele

Prior to the national shutdown, the South African Police Services formally started their national mobilization of law enforcement.
General Fannie Masemola, the national police commissioner, Elias Mawela, the police commissioner for Gauteng, and more than 500 other officials joined Cele.

On Monday, the EFF will take to the streets to demand, among other things, the ouster of President Cyril Ramaphosa and an instant end to load-shedding.
