Driving in South Africa requires a lot of nerve, if it’s not hijackers or smash and grabbers drivers have to watch for, it’s negligent motorists and notorious taxi drivers.
No matter how safe you are as a driver, there’s always that one driver who thinks they’re above the law. As was the case this morning, when a taxi driver decided to skip a red light and crashed into a Rea Vaya bus.
The collision took place in the Joburg CBD, on the cnr of Mirriam Makeba and Marshall Street, on Wednesday morning, 25 May.
Thankfully there were no passengers in either vehicle, but both drivers sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
In the video which was captured from a street camera, the taxi was at fault for skipping a red light.
The Rea Vaya bus driver had right of way, and was proceeding along in the designated bus lane.
As the bus driver was approaching the intersection, out jumps the taxi driver who probably thought he was a stunt-double in one of the Transporter movies.
Hopefully the taxi driver is brought to book with the video evidence and is held accountable for endangering the lives of others.
