Shinzo Abe, the former prime minister of Japan, passed away in a hospital on Friday, according to local media, just hours after being wounded during a political campaign rally.
According to a source from his ruling Liberal Democratic Party, Abe, 67, was bleeding from the neck when he slumped.
Abe, the longest-serving prime minister in Japan, was in power from 2012 to 2020 and for a year in 2006.

Two loud bangs, apparently from a shotgun, were heard in a video that was aired by Japanese media, and Abe was seen collapsing to the ground following the second shot.
According to TBS Television, he was struck on the left side of his chest and possibly in the neck.
According to the public broadcaster NHK, a suspect, a 41-year-old Nara male identified by police as Tetsuya Yamagami, was detained on the spot.
