- Shepherd Bushiri and wife Mary’s extradition case in Malawi has been postponed to September 2025.
- Bushiri cites assassination attempts and safety fears in South Africa.
- They face fraud and rape charges in South Africa after fleeing on bail in 2020.
Malawian prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary appeared before the Lilongwe High Court on Thursday, 18 July 2025, as part of their ongoing extradition proceedings.
In a Facebook post, Bushiri announced that the case has been postponed, with the High Court expected to deliver a ruling in September 2025.
“We are back from court today! The High Court in Lilongwe has adjourned our extradition case to South Africa, with a ruling expected in September,” he wrote.
Bushiri also claimed that while in South Africa, the couple survived several assassination attempts and expressed concerns about returning due to alleged corruption and safety risks.
“We’re waiting for justice, a fair trial, and safety, which we were deprived of in South Africa due to law enforcement corruption and concerns for our lives after several assassination attempts,” he added.
Bushiri went on to thank his supporters for their continued prayers, saying:
“Once again, thank you for your prayers. We are because you are!”
The Bushiris were arrested in South Africa in 2019 on charges including fraud, money laundering, and rape.
After being granted bail, the couple fled the country in November 2020, violating their bail conditions.
In March 2025, Malawi’s Magistrate Court in Lilongwe ruled in favour of their extradition under the SADC Protocol.
The matter is now before the High Court for a final decision.
