Matriculants can breathe a slight sigh of relief as the Department of Basic Education (DBE) will be excluding an unsolvable Maths Paper 2 question from the marking process.
This after a number of teachers and matric learners complained about the question which could not be solved correctly.
The DBE were requested to review Question 5.1 of the second Maths paper in November with a number of schools across the country complaining that there was no correct way of solving the equation.
Matric learners were concerned that would be losing the 7 marks that the question was set at, however the DBE has assured matriculants that the unsolvable Maths Paper 2 question will be excluded.
While some were hoping they would receive the 7 marks as the department’s way of apologising for the error, that will not be the case.
The Maths Paper 2 will not be marked out of 143 marks instead of 150 which it was set at.
DBE spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga said the error will be investigated to ensure the blunder does not occur again in future.
