The highway is closed for clean-up operations which are being monitored by Sanral.
“A hazardous material company contracted to Sanral was dispatched to monitor the situation as well as commence with the cleaning and containment of the hazardous material.
One person was treated on the scene and transported to Steve Biko Academic Hospital.”
One truck collided into the back of the other truck which resulted in both trucks being engulfed in flames.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire on both trucks but the road is still covered in the hazardous material which will need to be cleared.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes while the clean-up operations are still in place.
Delays are estimated to be approximately 3-hours from Sefako Makgatho Drive towards the Proefplaas interchange.
In February, a vehicle transporting petrol exploded on the N1 near William Nicol.
